Dont understand certain pricing???
Hi Everyone,
here is a newbie question for you. I was looking at a certain coin store and they have a 2009 AGE NGC MS69 for $904 and a 2009 AGE NGC MS70 for $839. Why would one that grades higher be cheaper and if so why would the MS 69 be worth more? Sorry if this question has been asked but I searched and couldnt find anything. Thanks in advance |
Re: Dont understand certain pricing???
The only possible explanation is that the pricing on the 70 is a mistake.

I would look at the grading company. PCGS grades are typically more stringent than NGC.
The top three are PCGS, ANACS and NGC. Others are not as reputable and their grades are circumspect, such as SGS or SEGS. Here is a link to the more well known grading companies: http://www.allcertifiedcoins.com/coi...companies.html All NGC coins I downgrade one grade and buy accordingly. SGS or SEGS I downgrade at least five grades and buy accordingly. It is my opinion that SGS determines if a coin is uncirculated it is atleast MS67 when infact it could be MS62 or lower and maybe even AU55-58. Check out the grading companies, that may help clarify the pricing. Here is a grading scale incase you are not familiar with it . aG-3 About Good G-4 Good VG-8 Very Good VG-10 Very Good Plus F-12 Fine F-15 Fine Plus VF-20 Very Fine VF-30 Very Fine Plus EF-40 Extremely Fine EF-45 Choice Extremely Fine AU-50 About Uncirculated AU-55 Choice About Uncirculated AU-58 Very Choice About Uncirculated MS-60 Typical Mintstate MS-61 Typical Mintstate MS-62 Select Mintstate MS-63 Choice Mintstate MS-64 Very Choice Mintstate MS-65 Gem Mintstate MS-66 Gem Mintstate MS-67 Superb Mintstate MS-68 Superb Mintstate MS-69 Superb Mintstate MS-70 Perfect Mintstate The Great Ag |
Re: Dont understand certain pricing???
OP specified both coins to be graded NGC.
Grade isn't everything. In my local shop I have commented that a graded MS70 obviosuly was not properly graded and the proprietor pointed out that the price was set appropriately despite the grading. Stop looking at the slab and look at the coin... then again, I can't see why anyone would need a grade on large production run bullion anyway. |
Re: Dont understand certain pricing???
A MS70 GAE for less than spot? Get the owner out of bed and buy it now!
